Moissanite was discovered in the late 1800's by Charles Moissan.  The crystals were thought to be diamonds because of their incredible brilliance, heat resistance, and hardness (9.3 on the MOHS scale).  The mineral compound is Silicone Carbide and it has been used widely in industry for decades because of ithe element listed above.  But in 1998 Charles and Clovard mastered creating Moissanite crystals into gemstones.  Under heat and pressure they created the first Moissanite gems and patented it.  Only recently, the patent expired and others began working on the perfection of Moissanite,  Today, much like Mother Nature, Moissanite is created using extreme heat and pressure, but much more rapidly.
